CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
As you are all aware, Contract Negotiations reached impasse on July 9, 2008. ATU offered and VTA agreed to continue negotiations through State Mediation. State Mediation failed on Tuesday, August 12, 2008.
Wages, Health and Welfare, and Pension remain the key disputes.
VTA presented its Final Offer to the Union on August 12th. The Union’s Negotiations Committee and Executive Board have unanimously recommended a NO vote, rejecting VTA’s Final Offer.
Informational Fliers will be distributed beginning on Monday, August 18, 2008. Informational Meetings will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008, at the South Bay Labor Council, located at 2102 Almaden Road, in San Jose. Meetings will be held at 10:00 a.m.; 3:00 p.m.; and 7:30 p.m. We will also be discussing VTA’s Final Offer at the Wednesday, August 20, 2008 Membership Meetings, held at 10:00 a.m., and 7:30 p.m., at the Union Office, located at 1590 La Pradera Drive, in Campbell. Please make every effort to attend the Informational Meetings or the Membership Meetings.
Voting will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at all Divisions from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (River Oaks: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
Should a NO vote prevail, we will be on STRIKE effective Monday, September 8, 2008, at 12:01 a.m.
